The finals of the Plate and Ankermill competitions were played at the Medway Park on Saturday 10th January 2014.
The first to be played was the Plate competition between Bill Thompson and Tom Darling which turned out to be an excellent game to watch for the spectators that came along. In a hard hitting first game battle Bill Thompson eventually came out on top winning 25 to 23 points with some great squash played by both players. The second and third games were equally tight with some great squash played with Bill winning both games 21 – 18 and 21 – 13 to win the match 3 -0. The final score line belied the brilliant squash that we were entertained to by both players with only a couple of lets in the whole of the final.
The second match was the final of the Ankermill competition between Rob Parry and Lily Taylor-French. Lily had the advantage of an 11 point handicap start over Rob which she used to full advantage winning the first two games 21 – 8 and 21 – 15.
Rob made a concerted effort in the 3rd and 4th games winning 21 – 18 and 22 – 20. The final game was won by Lily 21 – 11 to win the match 3 games to 2.
Thanks go to Dinesh Bansal and Len Locke who refereed and marked both matches and made the correct judgments on calls made by players.
